The Date

The first thing you need to nail down is your wedding date. This might seem obvious, but if you don’t have your date confirmed it will be difficult to move forward with booking most wedding vendors. Before proceeding in booking you as a client, your florist will need to know if they are even available for your day. So I suggest you wait until your date is confirmed before you start inquiring.

The Venue

Booking your wedding venue goes hand in hand your date, and one is often dependant on the other. Your florist will need to know what type of venue you are having in order to recommend the best designs for the venue space. For example, if you are getting married at an art gallery, your florist may suggest a ceiling installation to create a more intimate atmospere. Or if your venue is more traditional with a garden terrace you may want to go with more lush and loose designs, with a focus on lots of soft blooms. When a floral designer has an idea of what they can create for you, they will be able to give you a more precise estimate.

The Budget

Even if you think you have no budget, everyone has a number they are comfortable spending. This is probably one of the most important things to keep in mind as you are planning your flowers. You may not know your exact budget but being able to discuss a range will allow you to be much more productive during your consultation. When your florist knows your budget range they will be able to suggest designs that will make the most impact, taylored to your style and priorities.

You may have noticed that I did not include anything on colour palettes, flower types or floral terminology. I promise you, it doesn’t matter if you don’t know how to pronounce “boutonniere” and you don’t need to spend your valuble time researching specific seasonal flowers - that's our job!

What we need you to provide is the feel that you want for your wedding day. Is it bold and colourful? Or perhaps, more traditional with a touch of whimsy? If possible, choose a few inspiration images that best show how you want your day to feel. Pinterest boards are always a great way to communicate this!

If you keep these three things in mind - date, venue, and budget, and if you have a general idea of how you want your day to feel, you will be well on your way to beautiful, stress-free wedding flowers!
